The Uniform

Several years ago, Silicon Valley sparked a movement that quietly caught fire around the world. Icons like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg became known for wearing the same outfits day after day. It wasn’t laziness; it was intention. By reducing decision fatigue and focusing on what truly mattered, they discovered the power of simplicity. And now, more and more of us are realizing that a minimalist wardrobe can bring peace, clarity, and comfort to our daily lives.

Imagine opening your closet and knowing that every piece inside fits well, makes you feel good, and works with the rest. No more shuffling through items you haven’t worn in years or wrestling with choices that don’t quite feel right. The goal? A core wardrobe of just 10 versatile pieces per season—intentionally selected, loved, and worn on repeat.

The key to success with this approach is knowing your personal style and leaning into it. For me, that means dresses- all year round. I love how easy, flattering, and put-together I feel in a great dress, so that’s where I focus most of my wardrobe. Your version might look different, and that’s exactly the point. Minimalism doesn’t mean one-size-fits-all, it means knowing what makes you feel your best and building around that.  Take a moment to really reflect on what you love and how you might be able to label that style: classic chic, bohemian, sporty casual.  I’ve found that having a few words like simple, classic, chic has helped guide me in purchases.

Be choosy!  If something doesn’t bring you confidence or serve a real purpose, it’s time to let it go. This is a true project- take everything out of your closet and place it on your bed.  Touch each piece, try most on and decide which you really love.  Is it pilled or stained, it’s time to toss it.  Are you keeping it because it was a gift, if it’s not something bringing you happiness send it on it’s way. If you really take the time to consider each piece and how you feel about it, you’ll be putting only a few items back on hangers.

I live in Michigan with drastic weather changes throughout the year.  I’m a big fan of keeping out of season items out of sight.  Of course carefully analyze each piece before you store something for several months.  Tuck the loved items away in an airtight container to keep them fresh and ready for their next moment.

A minimalist wardrobe isn’t about rules—it’s about relief. Fewer choices, less clutter, and more peace. As you simplify what you wear, you will find you’re creating a more peaceful, intentional life in the process.
